While traveling through Australia, one of my favorite species to encounter was the Red-tailed Black Cockatoo. The females are spangled with white spots, while the males have a bombastic crest that rises and falls as they scramble through tree branches. This print depicts a pair I was able to observe in Darwin, NT, as I explored the area around Lee Point.

First I dreamed it. Then I found it - but not in Daintree Rainforest. You have to drive south of Cairns along the Cassowary Coast to Etty Bay Beach, where you can wake up in the morning and walk the beach with ancient birds.
